Product care

To ensure your Fold Studio room divider performs at it’s best, you will need to give it some care and attention.

Please note the recommendations below are intended as a guide only and Fold Studio does not assume responsibility or liability as results may vary.

In short, please ensure your screen AVOIDS the following conditions:

  • Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight

  • Any heat source (i.e. radiator or heater)

  • Sharp objects (i.e. buckles, pet claws, jewellery etc.)

  • Common cleaning materials, paints, solvents, nail varnish, dyes and felt pens

  • Perspiration, grime, body oils, hair creams and gels

CARING FOR TIMBER FRAME

Timber is a natural material with grain detail, colour and finishes subject to variation.  Solid wood is a living material that is affected by daylight, temperature and humidity.  It is a natural quality of timber for movement to occur - especially in warmer climates and in environments where temperatures change frequently from hot to cold, i.e. in front of air conditioning.  In light of this, we ask that you choose carefully the location of the product and be aware that environmental factors will have an effect on your furniture.

For longevity of the screen we recommend keeping out of direct/reflective sunlight as well as in contact with moisture/liquid.  The screen should be placed where it is protected from outdoor elements.  For safety, NEVER place near fireplaces and radiators.

Please keep the screen frames upright and avoid leaning against a wall, as this will place unnecessary strain on the hinges.  If the screen is not being used, for any reason and put in storage, we suggest covering with a sheet to keep dust off.

We recommend the following:

  • Regularly wipe down with a soft, dry cloth (preferably cotton or microfibre) to remove dust and dirt.

  • For persistent marks use a soft damp cloth with a touch of water only (never use washing up liquid) - wipe in the direction of the timber’s natural grain to prevent any cross scratching but avoid hard rubbing and scrubbing. Dry in shade away from direct heat or sunlight.

  • Do not wet down or leave spills to sit on the timber surface.

  • If spills occur, wipe up immediately with a cloth followed by a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture.

  • Do not place hot and cold items directly near the frame.

  • Do not use any other cleaners or polishes as they may cause permanent damage.

  • Please note: liquids containing alcohol, e.g. nail polish cannot be removed.

  • There are various products on the market that may restore surface scratches, like the use of “Scratch Cover”. Use this product in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • For minor dents, coloured beeswax sticks can be used to repair but we recommend you contact Fold Studio first to discuss any issues.

  • Osmo's complete product range is environmentally friendly and based on natural and renewable vegetable oils, all with a very low-VOC content.

CARING FOR TIMBER FRAME

Your frame has been finished with an Osmo finish.  For everyday care, use a clean, soft cloth wrung out with lukewarm water.  Do not use any cleaning agents or chemicals on the furniture.

Caring for Brass Hinges:

  • The concealed raw brass hinges are delicate products and the application of polishing products is not recommended - damage may occur easily.

  • Regularly remove dust with a soft cloth or feather duster. The natural raw brass finish will develop a patina over time.

  • If you wish to restore the shine use Brasso sparingly with a soft cloth or handy towel. Follow Brasso directions closely and take particular care near fabric and timber as Brasso will stain.

Caring for Danish paper cord

Woven paper cord is strong and usually requires no or very little maintenance, as it is designed to last for years. However, we recommend you take particular care in placing the screen and follow the below recommendations.

  • Do not place in direct or reflective sunlight as natural fibres have a tendency to fade.

  • Regularly remove dust and dirt from Danish paper cord with a soft, clean, dry brush.

  • Alternatively, regularly wipe down cord with a soft, dry cloth (preferably cotton or microfibre) to remove dust and dirt.

  • We also recommend occasionally gently dabbing the cord with a damp cloth to remove dust particles. Avoid rubbing, as this could cause visible damage to the cord.

  • Do not wet down or leave spills to sit on the Danish paper cord.

  • If spills occur, wipe up immediately with a cloth followed by a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture.

  • Do not place hot and cold items directly near the Danish paper cord.

  • Never sit or place damp/wet items on Danish paper cord.

  • Paper cord is a natural, comfortable and durable material. It lasts for many years, but can be replaced or repaired by a skilled craftsman if necessary.

Caring for Fabrics

  • Fold Studio uses fabric from various suppliers so the fabric compositions vary. Fabric performance specifications are available on request.

  • Do not place in direct or reflective sunlight as natural fabrics have a tendency to fade.

  • Occasional use of a lint remover is recommended on fabric to remove dirt and dust.

  • Do not rub stains - professional cleaning only is recommended.

  • Do not wet down or leave spills to sit on the fabric surface. If spills occur, wipe up immediately with a cloth followed by a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture and leave to dry in the shade.

  • Do not place hot and cold items directly near the fabric.

  • Never sit or place damp/wet items on the fabric panels.

  • Some fabrics, like natural linen, can have a tendency to be affected by weather so can ‘sag’ when weather is humid. If there are any creases, gently iron the fabric on a dry, low setting, holding a thick towel on the inside of the fabric panel and iron out any creases.
